The very generic description that would come to anyone’s mind upon hearing the term order fulfilment is the process of a purchase from point of sales to the final delivery of the product to the desired address. Though the term may sound very simple or generic, there have been several researches in the past just to define this simple term for businesses to get a deeper & better understanding and to serve better to its customers.
The first ever study conducted in the late 80s concluded that order fulfilment strategies of any company must be based upon the ratio between the time it takes to manufacture a product and the time consumers are willing to wait for the order to be completed, i.e. production lead time : demand lead time (P:D).
The term fulfilment may also be used by the distribution or the logistics industry or these specific departments of a company to refer to customer orders being complete or an in-house query being answered.
Businesses that deal into order fulfilment services require a lot of post to be sent out each day. Having kept a budget separately for postages to be sent every day, it is best advised to use a franking machine instead of regular mail delivery or courier services as it may help your business save a lot of money that you would otherwise end up spending.
